HYPNOTHERAPY

Hypnotherapy, or Deep Relaxation, is an accessible, affirming, complementary treatment to help focus attention on Well-Being, stress management, habit elimination, and other treatment issues. It is incorporated as a component of holistic, Well-Being practice. Deep relaxation is a powerful tool with many important clinical applications such as decreasing stress and anxiety, replacing negative self-talk, and improving self-esteem. Treatment includes the teaching of supportive, reinforcing, self-relaxation techniques.

"I 'get it' in my head but I don't feel it in my heart." We often "know" or understand intellectually that our thoughts and behaviors are not serving our best interests, yet we struggle to convert what we "know" into more positive thoughts and deeds, or Well-Thinking. Traditional Cognitive-Behavioral therapy alone may not be enough for short-term, results-oriented treatment. The conscious or thinking mind can stand in the way of change, because it contains deeply ingrained beliefs, learned behaviors, and fears.

We hang onto what we have learned through life experiences, often adapted from those which are painful, and we do so even when we "know better." This is an understandable human behavior, as we struggle to adapt to the world in ways that we have been conditioned to believe will keep us safe. We tell ourselves tired and outdated stories about who we are. Because the conscious mind seeks to protect us from the unknown, it will likely convince
us to hang onto our old habits and resist change, even when we intellectually “understand” that it is not in our own best interest for optimal health and quality of life. Deep relaxation helps to enhance results-oriented, positive life balance and self-care.
